Addie's list

Lately, Adelaide and I have had a lot of time to lie around together and make plans.

One of our many plans is to try and hand-make all of our gifts from now on. And so together we've been spending a lot of time planning and plotting our christmas presents. What could we make for - - - ? What about - - - - ? We've been scouring children's craft books and googling for more ideas, trying to figure out just what we could make for our presents.

So far, we've yet to actually take any action on this - but the planning is quite fun! Adelaide adores this type of conversation so much. She really gets so excited about it all, and never seems to tire of the subject.

The other evening when I said we should make some lists, she ran to the art room and came back with a random sheet of cardboard, so that she could write her own list. While I was jotting down on my paper, she began her own, asking me how to spell each name that came to her. (Her printing is getting quite good, but still needs help with a some letters - such as M and R and S.)

What I found interesting is that while I wrote our a list made up of people - relatives, neighbours, and friends - Adelaide's list was composed only and entirely pets!

I love it and I think that I will keep it forever. It reads: Teddy, Thomas, Tex, Elliot, Jack, Miso, Tecal, Jasmine, Ming, Otto, Maddie.

So the next little while we will try to find ideas for and make little presents for the truly important ones - our many animal friends.

That is adorable. I made most of my gifts handmade last year, as i was at the begining of my third pregnancy, it was hard to do the ALL. This year, I plan on making sure all of them are handmade. I have done pretty good on birthdays this year too.

I love kid writing and drawings, have you ever thought of taking a class together? I teach at Arts Umbrella, its fun.

This child is so adorable, she has such zest for life...I hope that is the thread that colors her entire life. So upbeat and positive! I had no problem reading her names on the list...to bad this is on cardboard, not great for saving or framing, but def. a keeper all the same.

Has she come up with any ideas on her own for the gifts?

Homemade gifts, works of love, are the very best of gifts to receive.

How darling! If you are serious about your pets and want something the two of you can make together - try homemade doggie biscuits - easy and fun and their humans appreciate it too - and it is easy to make cat nip in little cloth bags, I should say tiny, made out of any fabric scraps.

Ming and Miso are very lucky cats. Thanks Adelaide!!! Is one of those the new black cat in town? S/he chased Miso the other night - quite a scene! Wonder what his/her name is... and wonder if Miso was in her/his house when the chase started...

Addie is so precious! Love her list and of course, she is modeling her mama. Perhaps her wanting to go to preschool and new-found independence is the absolute best preparation for the new baby. Congratulations! I was sort of wondering when you weren't feeling well. Hopefully your good days will start outnumbering the bad days very soon.

I'm not even sure how I came upon your blog, but one day, a long while back, I did. Congrats on your pregnancy. I had to comment because the cardboard list reminded me of something my son did when he was little....I was in the kitchen doing something, and he came in holding a piece of cardboard, he had hand-written "MUST HAVE FRENCH TOAST!" on it and just sat there on the floor looking up at me with puppy dog eyes holding his sign! I definitely made him french toast that morning, and I most definitely STILL have that sign. So precious, he is 18 years old now btw, it goes FAST!!! Enjoy every moment!

Her handwriting is amazing for her age! My daughter recently learned a song in her kindergarten class to remind them to start their letters from the top. It's sung to the tune of, "If You're Happy and You Know It." I can't help but grin from ear to ear when I hear her singing it as she practices her letters.
