I am taking a little break from making stuff here, and so I thought it would be nice to say hello to all of you once again. Hi! How are you doing? I hope that you all had marvelous holidays and a even more marvelous Season of Sloth!
I myself did quite well - for I have been given the best christmas present a mom could ever get - Adelaide suddenly has begun sleeping heavily all night long, without so much as a peep! Wow, I was absolutely giddy as I just typed that. Now, if only I could start sleeping through the night things would be just about perfect.

I have been wanting to share with you all that our family home is featured in the current (January) issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. Here are some photos of the magazine article.

The team that was here did a few minor switches of moving a book or chair here or there, but it is difficult to stage scenarios with a toddler and two cats, and so the photos with us in them are pretty realistic. (We have no make-up or special wardrobes on, just what we happened to be wearing.) Adelaide was pretty shy and was a little bit sick on the first day of shooting. Elliot was in heaven and would just lie himself smack dab in the middle of every shot (except when we wanted him to). And Jack never even showed his even face once. Most of the time if the photographer - Bill Holt - saw us doing something he liked, he would just grab his camera and quickly take some photographs while he had the chance!

But I think that the team who worked on the feature did a wonderful job of showing how things are around our place and it is lovely to have a memento of this time in our lives together, forever.

How wonderful! I would think it's pretty surreal to have your home featured in a major publication like that. Congratulations and here's to your future success.
Eeep! Off right now to get my copy! It looks amazing :) Congratulations Sharilyn. You are the cutest family ever!
I was so excited to see you featured in the magazine. Congratulations. Your blog really has inspired me. So, would you mind telling me where you found your couch. I am looking for something exactly like it.
Happy 2010!
Nice to see you back in this space. I saw the article in BH&G. Very pretty spread. You are very kind to share your home. Take care.
Wow! Congrats to you Sharilyn. I always wondered what it would be like to open up a big magazine and see myself inside.
Congrats on the beautiful layout! And for a good night's sleep~ I love the feeling of waking up and feeling almost 'normal' again! Happy Weekend!
The article in BH&G was how I became acquainted with you and your business. I just want to thank you. You have inspired me to live a more simplistic, clutter free life. Thank you for sharing!
I must admit, that's how I found your blog! :)
this is how i found your blog too! i loved everything about your house and designs so i had to log into your blog and discover more wonderfulness! love it! i have google read-ered" you!
I just read the article about your home! Your home is beautiful. I am adding your blog to my reader. :)
Hi! I saw your beautiful article a week or so ago, which is what led me to your blog in the first place. In fact, it inspired me to turn my guest bedroom closet into my own studio space. I blogged about it (and your studio) in case you would like to see. Thank you greatly for the inspiration and congrats on the article!
Congratulations! That will be something to cherish in the future. I would also think that nothing "special" would need to be done to you or your home--it is already as "special" as ever. :-)
How exciting! No surprise though, because your house is so adorable! I can't wait to go grab a copy of the mag to see get a better look.
I guess I'm backwards-I read your blog and now I have to go buy the magazine! Thanks for sharing your life & creativity!
I saw the article in BH&G and that's how I found your blog. Your home looks lovely! I'd love to jump in!
The magazine is how I found you also! I love how simple your design is, but yet it's very cute!
Thank you so very much for the perfect box instructions!! It seemed like every time I turned around my 4 yr. old son was wanting me to hand him a plate or bowl. The drawer under my oven was never being used. So I turned it into "his drawer". He loves it! It makes him feel so big. But yet, it's always a mess. I've been thinking about hitting the Container Store to buy some plastic bins for it, then I received my Better Homes & Garden magazine. I saw the picture of Adelaide with her drawer. I went to your blog immediately and you have NO IDEA how excited I was to see the box instructions!!! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing!!
I love your blog, and your home. I'm looking forward to what will be in your next post! =]
Thanks Sharilyn, and have a grand weekend!

I have been poring over the article on your home ever since receiving my copy of BHG in the mail. Your home is so inspiring to me and has motivated me to turn my boys' playroom into an office/art/craft room for myself. The boys won't mind, I'm sure. ;) Thanks for the inspiration - your blog is my new favorite!

Hello I saw your beautiful home in the magazine I found your blog and its very inspiring I myself have a daughter that is 1 1/2 yrs old. I specially love the shelves that are on the wall by the window. I have thought of maybe recreating them for my little one since she doesn't have much space in her room. If its possible that I can get the place where you obtained those shelves I would really appreciate it. Also I love the tree quilt its amazing!!!!
I borrowed this issue from the library...and voila..now I read your blog:)
Congratulations! Hooray for you!!!

I found out about your blog by the article! I have gone back and forth looking at it. I was looking at the organizational and creative side of it and look forward to delving in your blog. I did not read other comments so hope this isn't a repeat question but where did you find your cube bookshelves and also your drawer cabinets for the craft room?
Congrats. Just saw that article this morning!
I'm ever so thankful for this article... because this is how I discovered you! Thank you Meredith Publishers and BH&G!!
I found you because of this article. Love your house. It reminds me of stuff I love.
I read the article about you and your business in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine while at the gym. I went straight home to find you on the web. I ordered some things, but was disappointed to find you were out of some of things I wanted. I will keep checking on the website, and order the chilly nights cards when they are in stock again...will they be?
cdebbout55@yahoo.com
was at the hairdressers this week and was excited to see this, beautiful!
Isn't it great how so many people have noticed your article and responded - very nice all around. I have one specific question: where, oh where, did you find the most excellent metal file drawers? I've seen some, but not in that size/configuration.
Thanks in advance for your help, and best of luck with your business.
Ellen in Austin

Well, I adore your blog and the work you do. Thanks for sharing your talented and lovely ideas with us out here! My 5 year son had to complete his kindergarten homework today by finding a picture of something that starts with the letter B. By chance, I grabbed this copy of BH&G, and he cut out your bookshelf chock full of books from the article that you are featured in. He labeled his homework "Books on a Book Shelf." Of course, I found the little orange box with your blog in it, and here I am... Needless to say, I'll be back to find inspiration. Thank you again for sharing your projects and ideas with everyone. Victoria Johnson
This is how I found your blog, through the magazine article! I am Montessori Mom and found many of the things you do with the kids to be very Montessori. I loved the way you arranged your daughters dishes. Even though mine have always been in a drawer low, they never stayed organized! I went out and organized them like this right away! I also posted a link to your dishes post here. http://montessorispanish.blogspot.com/2010/01/organizing-and-blogs.html
Your blog is beautiful!
I love your home. Especially love the bookcases where did you get them ? Your daughter is so happy.

I am the 100th comment! Yay!! Ever since I saw your home featured I have been dying to get an ikea bookshelf like the one you use for your lovely kids. It's small and I loved it. I have a question, where on earth did you get that metal divider to put books in? I have been wanting one since I saw your feature on bhg! Love your style!
Xoxo Claudia H.
HI AC Hanson, Thanks for visiting! The metal divider is called a "flexible collator" and I purchased ours (I have one large and one small) a long, long time ago from a small stationary shop in Los Angeles when I lived and worked there. They are fantastic and I'll always keep and use them! You should be able to track some for purchase online or even on ebay- a quick look provided me with lots of options in all random ranges of prices - just double check the size to make sure it is what you want! For example: http://www.office-supplies.us.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=collator&Search.x=0&Search.y=0
