waking up, together

waking up together by you.
waking up together by you.
Here are Adelaide and Elliot together again, on a hot afternoon, and waking from a big sleep (unseen fan whirring away at bottom of shot - Elliot is cooling off his big belly!)

I can't get over Elliot and how much he needs to be loved. And I can't get over how worried I was about bringing a little person into his world... for the results have been a delight!

Every time Adelaide has a sleep he cuddles on up with her. And every single evening he will sit out on our front stoop and wait. He is waiting for people to come by - and give him some love! Sometimes, my heart just breaks for Elliot, when people don't notice him sitting there sweetly waiting, or sometimes they even kind of push him aside a little as they walk hurriedly by. He then looks so sad and so disappointed. Often when this happens he will attack and mutilate himself - something that he rarely does anymore.

So, if you happen to be out for a walk and see a cat sitting and looking kind of hopeful, please do all the Elliot's of the world a big favour and pause to give them a few nice pats. Because when someone stops to love Elliot, He really is the happiest guy on the block. And I am quite certain that his heart is growing even bigger.

OOoooh Elliot! Too bad I was in such a rush yesterday when you were on my patio with Jack, Ming and Miso... I so love giving you pats and loved that you were comfortable enough to lay in our sunshine - so brave! I will love you later on, promise. and you can come downstairs whenever you like. In fact, have you seen Miso? Is she up there with you guys? Hmm...

gosh, Sharilyn- there is so much sweetness here.

whenever we go on walks, we have a few neighborhood kitties that we always stop and have a visit with. maybe we will call them all elliot now :)

i love how much elliot loves addie.
and also, i can't get over how they seem *almost* the same size!!!

ps- the quilt looks beautiful. wasn't that her first birthday quilt? i remember seeing it in your flickr. :)

This is such a sweet post. I have 3 dogs, but I have a love of cats too:) My little boy loves his dogs and I think it is so great that he will have them as a great childhood memory.

I will certainly give any cats I see some love on Elliot's behalf :)

that is so sweet!
if i ever walked by elliot i would most definitely give him a snuggle!
i love all animals but cats are my absolute favourite. i always try to pet the neighbourhood ones whenever i see them... and my cat gets so much attention from me i swear she avoids me on purpose :)

I never did see your post about Elliot's condition. So sad, but glad to hear he's doing better. Your babies are just darling.

This is so lovely--both your love for your cat and the relationship Elliot has with your daughter! I only wish my little boy was so sweet as it seems Adelaide is with your cat--my little one is always stalking our poor cat (who has since become very adept at darting into spaces where he cannot reach her). I know he is just interested and really does love her--but I just wish it was expressed in cuddling and napping together rather than grabbing her tail!

You know, whenever I hear you talking about Elliot or whenever I see pictures of him it makes me yearn for a cat. He seems to be the perfect companion. I will remember what you say .... that makes my heart ache for him.

We are BIG on the street cat petters. And your handsome fellow would have us crossing the road.

oh, this made me cry. your babies are beautiful, and I would totally stop and pet Elliot - what a sweet guy. my husband and I often take long, rambling walks around our part of the city, and we've named all the neighborhood animals we encounter; there's Lucy (dog; a very quiet boxer who will stand perfectly still upon seeing you, then carefully edge over and rub up against your leg like a cat), Hudson (a yellow labrador who is always inside, staring out the windows); and Luther, a black cat who has always glared at us balefully until a few nights ago, when he ran out to the road to greet us and be scratched under his chin.

I will always take time for the Elliots of the world.

I got a lump in my throat from that one.

Those photos are great. It's not too often you see a cat laying on it's back sooooo relaxed. Very cute.

So great. I wish you lived near us; we can't have a cat right now and my little by loves nothing more than to walk the neighborhood in the evening finding local kitties to pet. We're very lucky to have a friendly-to-2-year-olds cat named Bunny around the corner. Bunny was one of Liam's first words! Enjoy the peeks into you life and very much hope you are feeling better!

This post made me cry, and then immediately want to stroke my own darling cats.

...and, apparently, forget how to post a full comment. It's so good to hear that your sweet daughter and handsome cat get along so well. I always make sure to pet any friendly pets I see when I'm out walking, and if I ever see Elliot I'll be sure to give him the attention he deserves.

We have a special meow named Max who takes care of the kids at night. He instinctively knows if they are cold or having sleeping troubles and goes to lie with them. He likes to have his pats, we call it getting purred here, and can be quite naughty if not loved to proper specifications daily/hourly.
