a beautiful leaves poster

Well, after much thinking about it, over the weekend I finally got down to it and updated my website, and so now my newest poster which is all about beautiful leafy Canadian trees, is now available in my online store. This poster is the "long lost cousin" to my original pinecone poster and they are happiest when near to each other.

The Globe & Mail also (one of Canada's major national newspapers) published a blurb about the posters in their weekend edition, which was very thoughtful of them! I have been suprised at the number of orders for the posters that I have received - and have run out of mailing supplies, printer ink, and now I just may run out of posters! Especially the Pinecone print - I am down to my last few of them, so if you have ever considered owning one now may just be the time to do it - as I think I will be sold out of them very soon.

Blah Blah Blah. I know! Most likely if you are reading this you are wanting to know who has won my giveaway for the address file! I've been trying to think of the best way to find a winner and I think that I will just have a random draw hopefully tonight. I really wish that I had more files to give away, I really would like to be able to send one to each and everyone of you...

a word about the address files (+ giveaway!)

I feel just awful about the amount of inquiries I receive from people wishing to order an address file from me, and want to write an appology to everyone who has been waiting patiently for one of them.

For over a year now, since the birth of my daughter, I've been promising more (and I have been able to get a few done) but the fact of the matter is that I have been searching for another woodworker to make the wooden bases for me. I used to pay my father to make them all lovingly from scratch, each one perfect and beautiful, but somewhere around 1,000 he got a little fed up and he now has basically gone on strike and refuses to make any more (much to my dismay!)

So the past many months I have been searching for a woodworker to make my beautiful little files. So far, 2 enthusiastic sources have fallen through, leaving me a little disheartened and frustrated. I really want to find a local small business or craftsman to work with on the files and other prodcuts that I have on hold, but it seems that it just isnt happening. China, maybe? I rather not and it seems a shame, but I just can't seem to find anyone small and local to work with.

My search continues, and I really look forward to the day that I can make more address files again. I love them, I love making them: finding and cutting and punching every card by hand and putting them to together one by one. It's so satisfying to me, to make something that I love and I am proud of, and is just a little functional as well!

In the meantime, I have here an address file that I do not wish to sell, as the wooden base has an extra coat of (water-based) laquer on it. It is an "extra" from when my father and I were testing out the best finish for our black walnut wooden files. I have made it up and will send it to one of my wonderful customers or friends. Please leave a comment here and in a week or so I will somehow pick randomly someone out there to send it to. And once again, appologies for anyone out there who has been waiting ever so patiently...

kitty-love

Adelaide now spends a good portion of her day giving Elliot some "love". Thankfully, although Elliot has many issues - including mutilating his tail and peeing in the bathtub - seeking revenge on toddlers is so far apparently not one of them. Jack has the good sense to run, But Elliot will take any love he can get!

on being sick, and sewing trees

The past couple of weeks we have all been sick with some sort of stomach flu bug. First me, then Addie, and now Charles has it too (and pretty much everyone else we know). My poor baby girl, it was the first time she has ever been sick with anything. She had one day and one night of a lot of throwing up, and given that she is a 5th percentile baby for weight, I was a little bit concerned for her. Her appetite has not been the same since and she has barely been eating anything. It's times like these I am very grateful for breastfeeding, as she rarely turns the boobie down. At least I know she's getting something...

I feel like I've been trying so many things to get her to eat more and sometimes I just feel at a loss. If anyone out there reading this has any suggestions or food ideas for getting your toddler to eat, I would very much appreciate hearing them!!!

But, despite the sick and lack of appetite, Adelaide is still my sweet sweet girl.

A little while ago, I saw a photograph online of a quilt which was done in a flying geese pattern in green and white. It reminded me of a lot of little trees all together, and has inspired me to make a tree quilt. I tweaked around a little bit and came up with a pattern, and now I have been sewing up trees whenever I get a moment. The trees are about 2X3" in size and my plan is to place them somewhat randomly throughout the finished quilt, some trees all together and some spreading out and about. I also have thought of having them run from greens to yellows, oranges and reds like the seasons of spring, summer, and fall. But so far I have been only making them in green colours. Here are some of them now:

AND, just what is it with kitties and crafting? Every time I sit down to sew, these two show up. I don't know if they are just nosy, or if the sewing machine gives off some sort of heat, or what! They drive me crazy, but it's gotten to the point where when I head to my making room I catch myself calling out: "Elliot! Jack! Sewing!" Somehow, making no longer feels totally right without their company.
